HART was recently awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Public Engagement with Research; an award that recognises those who have contributed significantly to the Public Engagement with Research agenda at the University of Lincoln. The nomination was made by Mr Jason O’Rourke, head teacher at Washingborough Academy, and who is involved in international food education in schools. The judging panel deemed HART’s performance in this domain to be ‘exceptional’, and we are delighted with this recognition of our research. The award was presented by the Vice Chancellor to Professors Jacquelyn Allen-Collinson and Nigel Curry of HART, at the University’s Merit & Achievements Awards ceremony 2019-20.
The research programme for which the award was made included research leading to the production of a Food Strategy for the City of Lincoln, the establishment of the Lincoln Food Partnership, work with the City food banks, and the organisation of Mint Lane Café in Lincoln; a café that uses ‘waste’ food to feed and help those in food poverty.
